The history of the Damien Dumez Champagne House in Sacy near Reims
In the 16th century, our ancestors were already working as wine-growers in the vineyard of the Sacy hills. At that time, the grapes were destined to the clergy, so that they could make slightly colored gray wines. Throughout the 17th century, those wines became more and more popular among the royal courts.
Champagne was acknowledged as the consecration wine at the coronation of Louis XIV in 1654.
Sacy, birthplace of the Damien Dumez Champagne House
Our history has been linked to the vineyard for several generations. Following the alliances, inheritances and legacies, our land has in turns been passed down, bought or exchanged between owners to form an ensemble of slots gathered around our estate in Sacy, birthplace of our family.
Damien Dumez Champagne, three generations of wine-makers
At the beginning of the 1950s, the Damien Désautez and Dumez Lemoine brands were created by our respective parents. The latter is still sold on our estate.
A few years later, the destiny of both our families was sealed by our union and the creation of our brand, Damien Dumez.
We have taken over the family estate and respect the traditions to produce and commercialize our champagne.
